The DCS118B is a direct radiating subwoofer for cinema installations. It uses a dual ported bass reflex design with a high powered 18-inch low frequency driver, and the response extends to well below 30 Hz. The transient response is described as fast and accurate, giving tight low end with very low distortion.
The enclosure is shallow so it can be placed behind a cinema screen or anywhere a regular subwoofer would be too large. The port design slows the air leaving the port and turns its output through 90 degrees, which reduces air noise ("huffing"). The cabinet is internally braced plywood with a semi matt black paint finish.
The rear connector plate has industry-standard twist-locking speaker connectors and barrier strip connectors for input and link. The link connections allow an additional subwoofer or full range satellite loudspeakers to be connected.
