RP8

The RP8 is a turntable built around a light, stiff skeletal plinth. The plinth uses thin phenolic skins around a polyolefin foam core and is braced between the tonearm mount and the main bearing by a two-layer beam of magnesium over phenolic. The platter is a three-piece laminated float glass design that keeps its mass toward the rim to give a strong flywheel effect, and it runs on a precision hub bearing with an aluminium sub platter.

The RB808 tonearm is hand built, with individually matched bearings, a redesigned arm tube and a low capacitance phono cable that ends in a two-part plug with a twist-and-clamp lock. The motor runs on 24v from the separate TT-PSU supply, which uses a crystal-locked sine wave generator and is tuned to its own motor. Output distortion is below 0.05% and is not affected by changes in mains voltage.

An outer frame is decoupled from the inner plinth and touches it only at three points on the feet, which makes set-up simple and allows a dust cover to be fitted. The turntable can also be used without the outer frame. The Apheta 2 moving coil cartridge can be factory fitted as an option. The raw magnesium brace will develop a patina over time, and metal polish restores its shine.
