MB2 XBDi

The MB2 XBD i is the passive version of a professional active monitor used as a reference at Emil Berliner / Deutsche Grammophon in Berlin. It combines two 310mm Radial bass drivers, a hand-built 75mm soft-dome mid-range and a 27mm ferro-fluid-cooled SONOLEX soft-dome tweeter with a dispersion plate, the latter being part of the i series upgrade.

The bass section uses PMC's Advanced Transmission Line loading, with an effective line length of 2m x 3m (2x 10ft), and is stated to be flat down to 20Hz. The twin-cabinet tower layout adds 3dB of low-frequency headroom and spreads bass output over the height of the room, which smooths the in-room response. The cabinets are made from higher-density Medite with staggered joints and are veneered in real wood inside and out. The bass drivers have cast alloy exoskeletons that help limit power compression.

The 32-element, 24dB per octave crossover sits in its own enclosure on the rear of the lower cabinet. Connection is through three pairs of 4mm sockets, allowing tri-wire or tri-amp operation. Sensitivity of 91dB (1W/1m) keeps amplifier choice wide. A 20-year warranty applies if the product is registered within 10 days of purchase.
