The KH 870 II is an active, DSP-controlled subwoofer built for larger control rooms and midfield systems. It uses two 265 mm (10") long-throw woofers with ELFF force-factor technology in a rigid wooden bass-reflex cabinet with front-facing ports. Frequency response is 16–750 Hz (±6 dB), maximum bass-managed SPL is 123 dB, and the woofer amplifier is rated at 360 W. Protection includes soft clip, peak, thermo and excursion limiters.
It contains a bass manager for stereo, surround and immersive layouts up to 7.1.4. Room alignment, including phase, is handled through the separately sold MA 1 software for the subwoofer and connected analog monitors. Multichannel alignment of mixed analog and DSP monitors needs the separately sold MA 1 Multichannel Extension. The crossover is set at 80 Hz with a 24 dB/oct slope, and a user-adjustable delay of up to 115 ms is available.
Connections consist of XLR stereo inputs and outputs, Sub-D 25 connectors for up to 12 analog input channels and up to 11 output channels, and BNC AES3 digital outputs. A network port provides control through MA 1, and a ground lift and universal 100–240 V power supply are fitted. A separate AES67 variant is available for audio networking.
