The AZ24S2 is a double-cutaway electric guitar with an alder body and a bolt-on Roasted Maple neck. The neck is heat-treated for better stability and resistance to moisture and temperature changes. It carries a Jatoba fretboard with white dot inlays and 24 Jumbo Stainless Steel frets on a 648mm (25.5") scale. A Super All Access Neck Joint eases reach to the upper frets.

Two passive Ibanez Modern Custom humbuckers with alnico magnets are fitted at the neck and bridge. They are controlled by a volume knob, a tone knob, a five-way pickup selector and a mini Alter switch, which together form the dyna-MIX10 system. The system gives ten sound variations, switching between humbucker and single-coil style voicings, and its Power Tap mode produces a single-coil sound from the humbucker layout.

The bridge is a T106 tremolo with six independent saddles for individual height and intonation setting. Locking machine heads help keep the tuning stable, and all hardware is chrome. The guitar is offered in Black (BK) and Metallic Light Blue (MLB). Ibanez lists the M300C case and the IGB540-BK gig bag as recommended accessories.
