Sonata4 is a moving iron phono cartridge in the Timbre Series. It uses Joseph Grado's flux-bridger principle, in which the coils stay fixed and the moving mass is very low. The body is Mediterranean olive wood. The housing has been reshaped to give a clearer view of the cantilever during setup, which helps alignment and fits a wide range of tonearms.
The stylus is a nude elliptical diamond on a custom aluminum cantilever. The internal signal path is made from 6N OCC copper. Each cartridge is cryogenically treated and internally damped to reduce resonance. It is not sensitive to capacitive load.
It comes in stereo high output (4.0 mV) and low output (1.0 mV) versions, so it can be matched to different phono stages. Mono high and low output builds are available as special orders. Owners of other Grado wood body cartridges may be eligible for a pricing accommodation through the Wood Cartridge Upgrade Program.
