The Iron Lung is a digital vocoder in a small die-cast pedal. It uses a 256-band design derived from the maker's larger V256 vocoder, and works with a microphone on the XLR input plus a guitar or keyboard on the instrument input for polyphonic playing.
A Gender Bender knob shifts the formant up for a more female character or down for a more male one, with no shift at noon. A tone control changes the overall tonal balance and, past noon, adds harmonic overtones, which helps when a dry electric guitar is the carrier. A three-position switch sets the microphone preamp gain to low, mid or high.
The pedal has a buffered bypass with a footswitch and status LED. The output jack carries the effect signal and, with an insert cable connected at power-up, can split the dry instrument signal and the microphone signal onto separate contacts. It runs from the supplied 9.6VDC power adapter. The model was released in 2009 and was discontinued in 2022.
