Ghost Echo

Ghost Echo is a guitar pedal that emulates amp-top spring reverb using analog and digital circuitry. It suits guitarists and synth players who want vintage-style reverb with adjustable pre-delay, decay and mix.

  • Analog/digital emulation of amp-top spring reverb
  • Attack knob sets pre-delay from 30 ms to about 150 ms
  • Dwell sets decay length and self-oscillates near 3 o'clock
  • Depth sets wet/dry mix; unity at about noon
  • True bypass with relay switching; needs power to pass audio
  • 9 V DC, 2.1 mm negative center, 86 mA

Description

Ghost Echo is a compact effects pedal that recreates the sound of older amp-top spring reverb units. The circuit combines analog and digital elements. Three knobs shape the sound: Attack sets the pre-delay, Dwell sets the length of the decay, and Depth sets the wet/dry balance.

Pre-delay runs from about 30 ms to about 150 ms, which covers short slapback-style echoes and longer, more diffuse reverb. Short staccato playing tends to sound like slapback, while sustained legato playing brings out a broad ambient depth. At the top of the Dwell range the reverb self-oscillates, and the Attack control then changes the pitch of the oscillation. Depth reaches unity at about noon, and settings past that boost the wet signal.

The pedal uses true bypass with electronic relay switching, so no audio passes when it is unpowered. It runs from a standard 9 V DC supply with a 2.1 mm negative-center barrel. It is built by hand in Akron, Ohio, and carries a limited lifetime warranty.
