Cur síos

The Alva MC is a high-output moving coil cartridge developed in the UK for the Alva TT turntable range. It uses an elliptical stylus, which gives a large contact area in the record groove, and an aluminium cantilever left exposed rather than enclosed in a housing, which is intended to reduce resonance and vibration.

Because its moving mass is low, it is described as lighter and quicker to respond to the groove than many moving magnet designs. Output is 2mV at 1kHz, with a recommended load of 47kΩ and a tracking force of 2g. Stated frequency response is ±1dB from 30Hz to 20kHz, and channel separation is 25dB at 1kHz.

The body is finished in lunar grey to match the Alva TT V2, with patterned knurling taken from the maker's Edge hi-fi range. A 68° angle running from top to bottom refers to the company's founding year of 1968. The cartridge weighs 7g and is fitted to the turntable's headshell.
