The A8X is a vertical two-way powered monitor with one 8.5-inch woofer (carbon, Rohacell and glass-fibre cone) and an X-ART folded-diaphragm tweeter. Each driver has its own amplifier: a 150 W PWM amp drives the woofer and a 50 W class A/B amp drives the tweeter. The crossover sits at 2300 Hz and the frequency response runs from 38 Hz to 50 kHz. A pair reaches a maximum SPL of 120 dB or more at 1 m.
Large bass reflex ports on the front let the monitor be placed close to a wall. The cabinet shape is designed to cut unwanted reflections, and the vertical sound radiation is directional, which reduces early reflections from consoles and desks. Room adaptation is handled by a tweeter gain control and low and high shelf filters, with a level control and power switch on the front panel.
Input is analog on XLR and RCA connectors, for balanced and unbalanced line signals. The cabinet is not magnetically shielded. The monitor comes with a power cord and manual, and the warranty is 2 years, extendable to 5 years with product registration.
