Universal Audio Volt 4P Max – Four Preamps for the Whole Band

Volt 4P Max is the flagship Volt: four Tone Shaping Preamps, each with Max Processing compression, plus speaker switching, talkback, two headphone outputs, ADAT, MIDI and a USB hub. It records a compact drum kit, a band take or a four-host podcast in one desktop unit.

Key Features

• Four Tone Shaping Preamps: Warmth, Focus or Shine on every mic input, set per channel
• Max Processing: Six onboard compressor presets based on the 1176, LA-2A and VCA designs, tuned for vocals, guitar and bass
• Up to 12 Inputs: Four mics plus 8 more channels via ADAT or S/PDIF optical
• Main and Alt Speaker Switching: Two monitor pairs, plus talkback mic for the live room
• Two Headphone Outputs: Shared cue mix for engineer and performer
• 32-bit / 192 kHz Conversion: Up to 119 dB dynamic range on the mic inputs, so quiet details and loud peaks both land intact

Customer Benefits

Every one of the four inputs is the same preamp, so channel 4 sounds as good as channel 1, and each can carry its own tone and compression. Kick, snare and a stereo overhead pair, or four podcast voices, all get a polished sound at the source. The included supply covers four phantom-powered condensers.

Pros & Cons

✅ Pros:

• Four identical preamps, each with tone and compression
• Speaker switching, talkback and two headphone outputs
• ADAT expansion to 12 inputs

⚠️ Cons:

• No onboard DSP for running UAD plug-ins in realtime (that is Apollo territory)
• Bus power depends on the host port; the supply is the reliable option with four condensers

Volt 4P Max is the most complete Volt yet and the one to choose when more than two people are in the room.
