Description

OWC USB4 Hub – Full USB4 Speed on the Desk

Most USB-C hubs quietly cap a modern laptop at 10Gb/s. The OWC USB4 Hub runs at the full 40Gb/s your USB4 or Thunderbolt machine already has, then splits it into two USB4 ports, two 10Gb/s USB-C ports and an HDMI 2.1 output, while charging the laptop at up to 81 W.

Key Features

  • Two USB4 downstream ports: 40Gb/s of shared bandwidth for NVMe SSDs, docks or a second display.
  • HDMI 2.1 built in: Up to 8K 60 Hz or 4K 240 Hz on a compatible display, no adapter required.
  • Two front USB-C 10Gb/s ports: For card readers, phones and everyday drives.
  • Up to 81 W host charging: Powers the laptop through the same USB4 cable.
  • Fanless aluminum housing: Silent, 260 g, with a Kensington Nano security slot.

Customer Benefits

A USB4 laptop plugged into a 10Gb/s hub leaves most of its bandwidth unused. Here the same single cable carries a fast external SSD at USB4 speed, an 8K or high-refresh HDMI monitor and charging, so a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Windows ultrabook or USB4 iPad Pro turns into a full desk setup in one plug. It is small enough to live behind a monitor, and it runs silent.

Use Cases / Ideal For

  • MacBook Air and ultrabook desks with one high-res monitor
  • Editing off a fast USB4 NVMe SSD
  • USB4 iPad Pro setups that need HDMI and storage

Pros & Cons

✅ Pros:

  • Real USB4 bandwidth instead of the usual 10Gb/s hub ceiling
  • HDMI 2.1 without dongles
  • Small, silent aluminum body

⚠️ Cons:

  • The two USB4 ports share 40Gb/s, so each gets up to 20Gb/s when both are busy
  • No Ethernet, card reader or USB-A ports
  • Laptop charging depends on the included external power supply

If your laptop has USB4 and your current hub doesn't use it, this is the simplest upgrade in OWC's range.
