Animal Factory Amplification Asura – Wavetable Polysynth With Analog Fuzz
Asura is the first standalone synthesizer from Animal Factory Amplification, the Indian boutique pedal and Eurorack maker known for dark, aggressive sound. Built over five years together with Bangalore musician and instrument designer Sanjay Das (Philtersoup), it pairs a six-voice hybrid wavetable engine with the brand's signature analog fuzz and a dual-head granular delay. It does not model any classic synth, and it does not try to.
Key Features
- Hybrid wavetable engine: two custom DSP wavetable oscillators per voice, with detune, FM and independent wavetable position.
- Melt control: slow, wandering instability in pitch and wavetable position that pushes clean patches into something organic and wonky.
- Analog fuzz on board: a digitally controlled analog fuzz circuit with drive, gain, a notch-to-low-pass filter, gating, bipolar feedback and a dry/fuzz blend.
- Granular delay: dual-head delay that runs forward or reverse, with diffusion, tone, feedback and tape-style wow, flutter and saturation.
- Four voice modes: six voices, three voices with four oscillators each, 12-oscillator unison, or chord mode with modulatable inversions.
- Colour-coded modulation: two envelopes, two morphing LFOs, key pressure and two CV inputs, each lighting the knobs in its own colour while you assign it.
Customer Benefits
Asura keeps everything on the surface. There are 20 backlit knobs and a pressure-sensitive touch keyboard, and assigning modulation means tapping a source and turning the knob you want it to move. The fuzz and delay sit inside the instrument, so a patch can go from lush pads to full distortion without extra pedals. An 8-step polyphonic sequencer with parameter locks, an arpeggiator and a pressure-controlled randomizer turn short ideas into moving parts. Full MIDI control over USB-C or TRS, plus Gate, V/Oct and clock I/O, connect it to a DAW, a Eurorack case or other hardware.

Ideal For
- Sound designers who want distortion and delay inside the synth
- Eurorack users looking for a polyphonic voice with CV and clock I/O
- Producers of dark ambient, industrial, techno and experimental music
Compatibility
Isolated USB-C for a noise-free connection to your DAW, TRS MIDI Type A for hardware, and a web editor for presets, custom wavetables, the modulation matrix and firmware updates.
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros:
- A sound of its own, from glassy wavetables to heavy fuzz
- Fuzz and granular delay built in, no pedals needed
- Deep CV and clock I/O for modular setups
- Hands-on panel with clear colour-coded modulation
⚠️ Cons:
- No conventional filter section; tone shaping happens in the fuzz and delay
- Touch keyboard is small and suits sequencing better than playing
- Only 25 presets on the device; larger libraries need the web editor
If you want a synth that moves from ethereal to brutal without a pedalboard, Asura is built for exactly that.
