The UAC-2 is a two-channel audio interface that connects over USB 3.0 and draws its power from the bus. It records and plays back at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and it upsamples four times during both A/D and D/A conversion. Converters are a Burr Brown PCM4202 (A/D) and an AKM AK4396 (D/A), with an asynchronous transfer system that is not affected by computer jitter. Round-trip latency is quoted at 2.2 ms at 96 kHz/32 samples.
The front panel has two combo XLR/TRS inputs with individual gain controls, clip LEDs and Hi-Z switches for guitar or bass, plus switchable +48 V phantom power. A three-way Direct Monitoring switch allows zero-latency monitoring in mono or stereo. A Loopback function mixes live inputs with computer playback and sends the blend to streaming software. Outputs are two balanced TRS jacks and a stereo headphone jack with its own level knob.
MIDI In and Out use 5-pin DIN connectors. A Class Compliant Mode switch allows use with an iPad, which needs the optional AD-14 power adapter and an Apple Camera Connection kit or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. The free UAC-2 MixEfx app for Mac and Windows adds mixing controls, reverb, echo, low cut, phase reverse and auto gain, with three memory slots. A Cubase LE download license is included.
