The Q8 records video up to 2304 x 1296 (3M HD) at 30 fps, or 720p at 60 fps, to SD, SDHC and SDXC cards up to 128 GB. Video is saved as H.264 MOV. Audio can be embedded in the video file or saved separately as WAV or AAC, up to 24-bit/96 kHz, with up to four simultaneous audio tracks. The unit can also work as a stand-alone stereo or four-channel audio recorder.
The supplied XYQ-8 X/Y capsule is detachable, and the recorder also accepts most Zoom capsules, including those from the H5 and H6 (the EXH-6 is not compatible). Two combo inputs have phantom power and a -20 dB pad, and a low-cut filter, compressor, limiter and built-in mixer are provided. A 2.7-inch rotating colour touchscreen, ten scene presets, a self-timer and 4x digital zoom handle framing and exposure.
It connects over USB for streaming, file transfer, and use as a webcam or USB microphone. Other outputs are a headphone/line jack, a micro HDMI output and a built-in speaker. A rechargeable Li-ion battery gives more than two hours at 720p/30fps and charges over USB or an optional AC adapter. A standard tripod thread and a tripod-to-three-prong adapter cover most mounting options.
