The SL-100C is a manual direct-drive turntable that plays 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm records. Its brushless, coreless motor is a tuned version of the one used in the SL-1200GR, and it spins a two-layer aluminium die-cast platter whose underside carries damping rubber to suppress resonance. The chassis combines an aluminium die-cast part with a glass-fibre-filled ABS layer, and spring-and-rubber insulators absorb vibration.
The universal static-balance S-shaped tonearm uses gimbal-suspension bearings and a machined housing like those of the SL-1200 Series. Arm height adjusts over a 0–6 mm range, so other cartridges can be fitted. An Audio-Technica AT-VM95C cartridge is pre-installed. A mechanical auto lifter built into the arm base raises the cartridge at the end of a record without using motor power.
The turntable has no built-in phono equaliser. It outputs through a single pair of phono pin jacks plus an earth terminal, so it needs a phono input or external phono preamp. The supply is 110–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz.
