The BQ500 is a micro bass head weighing 2.3 kg (5.1 lbs) that uses a Class-D power stage rated at 500 watts. Its preamp uses a high-voltage MOSFET circuit intended to give the response and feel of a tube amp. Tone shaping comes from a 4-band EQ, and a single-knob compressor called THRUST controls the dynamic range of the playing.
A passive/active switch adjusts the preamp input to suit basses with either passive or active pickups. For live and recording use, a balanced DI output sends the signal to a front-of-house mixing console or recording equipment.
For practice, the head has a headphone amplifier with speaker emulation and an AUX input for playing along with tracks. The chassis is built from steel for use on the road.
