Single-rack-space solid-state audio recorder that records WAVE or MP3 files to CompactFlash cards, aimed at installed-sound systems. It offers balanced XLR, RCA and coaxial S/PDIF connections plus serial, parallel and keyboard control. Discontinued and replaced by the SS-R250N.

The SS-R1 is a one-unit rack recorder that stores audio on CompactFlash media instead of tape or disc. It writes files in WAVE or MP3 format and is designed for fixed installations such as venues and facilities where a compact recorder is needed.
Analog audio is handled through balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line inputs and outputs. Digital audio uses coaxial S/PDIF in and out, with a sample rate converter on the digital input. Power on play lets the unit start playback when it is switched on, and auto track increment can split recordings into new tracks by level or by time.
For control and integration, the unit has a PS/2 keyboard input that can be used for naming folders and files and for remote operation, an RS-232C serial port and a DB-25 parallel control port. A tested-media list covers CompactFlash cards from Lexar, SanDisk, Transcend, Kingston, PQI and TASCAM, ranging from 512 MB to 128 GB. The model is discontinued.
