The SS-R05 is a compact recorder that writes audio to CompactFlash media. It is a stripped-down version of the maker's SS-R1, aimed at fixed installations, broadcast use and house-of-worship or meeting recording. It records in 16-bit WAV or in MP3.
For installers it offers power-on play, so music playback starts when the unit is switched on, and automatic track increment that can be triggered by time or by signal level. A PS/2 keyboard can be attached to name folders and files on the card, and it also works for remote control. A wired remote control is supported as well.
Analog connections are unbalanced RCA line input and output. Digital connections are coaxial S/PDIF in and out, with a sample rate converter on the digital side. The unit is one rack space high. The maker has discontinued it and lists the SS-R250N as its replacement, and a tested list of CompactFlash cards from several brands is published for it.
