The MMP-16 is a 16-track hard disk playback unit made as a replacement for the mag dubber in film and TV post-production. It reads the edit lists of major DAWs directly and suits dubbing stages that play back tracks locked to a recorder. Discontinued.

The MMP-16 is the playback-only counterpart of the MMR-8 recorder, with 16 tracks instead of 8. It reads the same set of DAW formats and can read the edit decision list of most major DAWs directly, so sessions do not have to be transferred first. It is typically used to play back tracks while an MMR-8 handles mixdown, with sample-accurate lock between them.
The controls are laid out identically to the MMR-8, so operators who know one machine can use the other. Last-minute fixes such as extra cuts and track slipping can be made with the same editing functions as on the MMR-8. A GUI connection is available for a familiar DAW-style layout.
Audio is played at 24 bit, with a 24 bit signal path through AES/EBU and 20 bit D/A converters. Sample rates are 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz plus pull-up and pull-down variations. Synchronization covers SMPTE, biphase and serial 9 pin, and the MMR Bus can link up to 100 MMR/MMP units. Storage is a removable Kingston carrier bay on the front panel, and a SCSI port is on the rear.
