The LA-80 takes eight unbalanced line signals and converts them to balanced signals, so that gear using the two different signal levels can be connected with the signal quality preserved. It is the unbalanced-to-balanced counterpart of the LA-81, which converts in the opposite direction, from balanced to unbalanced.
Gain for each channel can be trimmed with fine adjustments on the front panel. Ground lift switches are provided both for each channel individually and as a global switch, which helps when dealing with ground loops between connected equipment. A utility ancillary power outlet is fitted on the rear panel.
The unit is built in a 19-inch rack-width chassis that is 48 mm (1-7/8 inches) high, so it takes up a single rack space in a standard equipment rack. It weighs 2.8 kg (6.171 lbs). The maker lists a technical documentation file and an owner's manual dated 2007-07-30 for this model.
