The LA-40mkII converts line levels in both directions between balanced and unbalanced connections, with four channels each way. It combines half of the larger LA-80 and half of the LA-81 in a single unit, which makes it a fit for setups that need fewer channels than those models provide.
Each output has a fine-tuning trim with a range of ±6 dB. Ground lift switches can be set per channel or globally to help deal with hum from ground loops. The balanced nominal level can be switched between +4 dBu and -20 dBu. A distribution amplifier function with a channel uplink lets one signal be fed to several outputs.
The unit is a compact one-rack-unit design. A cascading power outlet rated at 500 W is built in for powering other equipment. This model has been discontinued by the maker.
