The iM2 is a compact stereo microphone with a pair of condenser capsules of the type used in Tascam's DR-series handheld recorders. The capsules can be angled up to 180 degrees from front to back. A built-in microphone preamp and analog-to-digital converter keep recording noise low. Capture is CD-quality, at 44.1 kHz and 16-bit linear PCM.
A switchable limiter attenuates loud signals to guard against overload. Together with an adjustable input level control and a 125 dB SPL maximum level, this suits recording loud shows. The unit takes its power from the host device through the dock connector, so it needs no batteries.
It connects to the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch 4G, iPad and iPad 2 through the dock connector. A USB input lets the host device charge from a USB connection or from the optional Tascam PS-P515U adapter while the microphone is attached. The unit weighs 1.05 oz and is small enough for mobile use.
