The DA-P1 is a battery-powered portable digital audio tape recorder built for location recording. Two mic preamps sit on the side of the unit, with phantom power for condenser microphones. A switchable limiter and a -20dB pad help guard against clipping on loud sources.
For field use, the XLR connectors lock in place and the main controls are recessed so that casual knocks do not stop a recording. Connectors, display and controls are placed to work whether the recorder hangs from the supplied shoulder strap or sits on a table. A headphone output with level control allows monitoring, the LCD light can be switched off to save power, and a margin counter with reset is provided. One BP-D1 rechargeable battery is supplied, giving up to 100 minutes with phantom power on and 2 hours with it off. Batteries can be charged inside the recorder or in the optional CB-D1 charger.
Back in the studio, unbalanced RCA analog I/O and SPDIF coaxial digital I/O handle transfers. SCMS code limitations are overridden, so copying recorded material is not restricted. An optional CS-D1 carrying case is available.
