The Phonitor e is a stereo headphone amplifier in a slim housing. It drives standard headphones through a 6.35 mm TRS jack and balanced headphones through a 4-pin XLR socket. Volume is set with a milled aluminium knob on an Alps RK27 potentiometer, and it can also be controlled with any infrared remote, which the unit learns via a programming button on the back.
A Phonitor Matrix section provides switchable crossfeed in two intensities (C1 and C2) so that headphone listening comes closer to a speaker presentation. Speaker angle is preset to 30° and center level to -1 dB. The analog stage uses SPL's 120V (VOLTAiR) technology, with an internal operating voltage of +/-60 V, a maximum input level of 32.5 dBu and a linear power supply with shielded toroidal transformer.
Analog sources connect via balanced XLR or RCA inputs. An optional DAC768xs module adds USB, coaxial and optical digital inputs based on the AKM AK4490 chip, handling PCM up to 768 kHz and DSD up to DSD256. USB is class compliant on Mac and iOS (with the Apple camera adapter); Windows needs a driver for sample rates above the standard rate.
