SPL PASSEQ
A 19-inch rack passive mastering equalizer with three frequency bands, each with separate cut and boost controls and a central output control. It is built on SPL's 120V circuitry and intended for mastering and studio engineers who want a vintage-style passive EQ curve.

The PASSEQ is a stereo mastering equalizer built around a single passive filter made of variable resistors, capacitors and coils. Three frequency ranges (Low, Mid and High) each have a cut control on the left and a boost control on the right, with an output control in the middle. Because a passive filter can only attenuate, boosting one region means lowering the others, and a make-up gain stage behind the filter restores the level, by up to 20 dB.
The design takes its cue from passive equalizers of the 1950s and 60s, with curves tuned by ear and compared with a vintage Pultec. The high-frequency band is extended with 25 kHz and 35 kHz positions. The make-up stage uses SPL's 120V technology, which runs the analog audio path at +/-60 V with proprietary SUPRA operational amplifiers, allowing input levels up to 32.5 dBu.
Audio goes in and out over balanced XLR connectors. Power comes from an internal linear supply with a shielded toroidal transformer, switchable between 115 V and 230 V mains. The unit is made in Niederkrüchten, Germany.
