SPL Gemini

Gemini encodes a stereo L/R signal into mid (L+R) and side (L-R) components and decodes it back after processing. The mid path has balance and trim controls, a solo function and a switchable insert for outboard gear. The side path has its own solo and insert, plus a stereo width control that raises or lowers the side level to widen or narrow the image.

An elliptical filter moves low-frequency content from the side signal to the mid signal, which tightens bass. Balance, trim, width and the elliptical filter can each be switched into the signal path only when needed. The analog audio stages run on SPL's 120V technology, using +/-60 V rails and proprietary SUPRA operational amplifiers, powered by an internal linear supply with a shielded toroidal transformer.

All inputs, outputs, sends and returns are balanced on Neutrik XLR connectors. The encoder and decoder stages can be patched separately into the inserts of the SPL Hermes mastering router, so M/S processing can sit anywhere in a chain that also contains conventional L/R processors. Mono devices can be used between the encoder and decoder.
