SPL Frontliner
Frontliner is a rack-mounted analog channel strip that combines a hybrid discrete-transistor and tube mic preamp, de-esser, compressor/limiter, EQ with tube saturation and a VU meter. It suits vocal and instrument recording and can also serve as an analog processing station in DAW-based studios. It is listed as discontinued.
- Hybrid discrete transistor and tube mic preamp
- De-esser, compressor/limiter, EQ and tube saturation
- Every module has its own balanced inputs and outputs
- Optional Lundahl transformers and S/PDIF AD converter
- 19-inch rack unit, 5.7 kg

Frontliner is a 19-inch analog channel strip built from separate modules: a hybrid preamp with a discrete transistor stage and a tube stage, a de-esser, a compressor/limiter, a three-band equalizer and a tube saturation section. The mic preamp is built from single transistors and offers 48 V phantom power, polarity inversion, a pad and a low-frequency cut filter. A line input and a front-panel instrument input are also provided.
The de-esser works with an automatic threshold and detects sibilants in a narrow band, cancelling them by phase, with one knob to set the amount. The compressor uses a double-VCA drive circuit and has signal-dependent automatic attack and release that can be adjusted by hand. The EQ has semi-parametric low and mid bands plus an Air band. A large VU meter shows output level or compressor gain reduction.
Every module has its own balanced inputs and outputs, so the sections can be used as separate devices, grouped freely or given insert points. Lundahl input and output transformers and a 24-bit AD converter module with coaxial and optical S/PDIF output are available as options.
