The Elector is a line-level analog preamplifier built around a motorized Alps RK27 potentiometer turned by a 45 mm milled aluminum knob. Volume can also be driven by any infrared remote, which the unit learns at the press of a button. Two mechanical VU meters show the left and right input levels, with a switch to adapt the display to different signal levels.
Six stereo sources can be connected: three balanced on XLR and three unbalanced on gold-plated RCA. A tape monitor loop supports recorders or an equalizer, with a switch that lowers the send level by 10 dB and raises the return by 10 dB. Two output pairs, XLR and RCA, carry the same signal under the main volume control. DIP switches can take either pair out of volume control, turning it into a Slave Thru output, for example for a headphone amplifier with its own level control.
From hardware revision 1.1, a Home Theater Bypass makes Input 6 independent of the volume control. AMP CTL switches the standby of devices with a 12 V trigger input together with the Elector. The audio stage uses SPL's 120V (VOLTAiR) technology with +/-60 V rails, and a linear power supply with a toroidal transformer.
