Crimson 3 combines a USB audio interface with a studio monitor controller. It has two discrete microphone preamps with switchable phantom power and a high-pass filter, plus two high-impedance instrument inputs on the front panel. A built-in omnidirectional electret talkback microphone has its own gain control.
On the monitoring side it switches between two speaker pairs, offers a dim function, an Artist Mode and a Talk switch, and lets the user build a monitor mix of analog inputs and analog or digital sources and DAW returns. Two headphone outputs have independent volume controls. The headphone amplifier includes the Phonitor Matrix, which adds adjustable crossfeed to reduce the super-stereo effect of headphones; centre level is preset to -1 dB and speaker angle to 30°.
The unit connects to a Mac, PC or iOS device over USB and is class compliant on Mac and iOS, so no driver is needed there; iOS requires the Apple camera adapter. Windows needs a driver for sample rates above the standard ones. Converters run up to 192 kHz. Speaker output A is on XLR and B on 6.3 mm TRS jack. It is powered by an external 12 V DC adapter.
