This unit is a network streamer without amplification. It connects to a stereo, receiver or powered speakers and lets that equipment play music, podcasts, audiobooks and internet radio through the Sonos app. It can also be controlled with Apple AirPlay 2 from iOS devices, and supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control when paired with a voice-enabled device on the same WiFi network.
Outputs are analogue (RCA) and digital (coaxial). A 12V trigger switches a connected amplifier or receiver on automatically when playback starts. A line-in takes a turntable with phono preamp, a CD player or another source and shares it with Sonos speakers in other rooms. Bass and treble can be adjusted in the app, and volume can be set per room or per group of rooms.
Connectivity is through WiFi (802.11b/g, 2.4 GHz) or two 10/100 Ethernet ports. Bluetooth Low Energy is used only during first-time setup. It does not power speakers and is not intended for TV use, since the analogue line-in can cause lip-sync delay.
