SM58

The SM58 is a unidirectional dynamic microphone voiced for vocals, with a brightened midrange and bass rolloff. Its cardioid pattern focuses on the main sound source and reduces background noise, making it suited to live stages, speech and studio vocal work.

A pneumatic shock-mount system inside the body reduces handling noise, and a built-in spherical wind and pop filter limits breath and plosive noise. The steel mesh grille is designed to take rough handling, and the supplied stand adapter is break-resistant and rotates 180 degrees.

The microphone connects with a standard XLR cable. Two versions are listed: one with an on/off switch and one without, and one of the options includes an XLR-XLR cable. A replacement cartridge, the R59, is available, along with a replacement grille and windscreen as optional accessories.
