Beta 181
A compact side-address small-diaphragm condenser instrument microphone with interchangeable polar-pattern capsules that screw onto an XLR preamplifier. It suits close-miking drums, piano and acoustic instruments in tight live or studio setups.

The Beta 181 is a small-diaphragm side-address condenser built in two parts: a capsule and a compact preamplifier with an integrated XLR connection. Cardioid, supercardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional capsules are available, and a locking ring secures the capsule to the preamp. Each microphone ships with one capsule and one preamplifier, so extra capsules can be bought separately to change pattern.
The frequency response is tuned for wide dynamic range work and high sound pressure level environments. The small body lets it sit close to the source in cramped positions. Suggested uses include cardioid for drum overheads and piano, supercardioid for snare and close-miked instruments, omnidirectional for room and ensemble pickup, and bidirectional for mono overheads, dual-source setups and Blumlein stereo. A cardioid and a bidirectional capsule together allow M/S stereo.
It connects through the preamplifier's XLR output. A clip, windscreen and zippered carrying case that holds up to four capsules are included.
