Sequential Prophet XL

The Prophet XL is a 76-key, bi-timbral polyphonic synthesizer that combines sample playback with digital oscillators and analog low-pass filters. It is the longer-keyboard version of the Prophet X and is aimed at studio and stage players who want sampled and synthesized layers in one instrument. It is no longer in production.

Description

The Prophet XL pairs a sample engine with a digital oscillator engine. Each voice offers two stereo multi-sampled instruments plus two digital oscillators with sine, sawtooth, pulse and supersaw shapes. It ships with 150 GB of 16-bit, 48 kHz instruments from 8Dio, and 50 GB of extra storage is set aside for user samples and third-party libraries. Samples can be looped, stretched, reversed and reduced in bit and sample rate.

Sound is processed through analog 4-pole resonant low-pass filters, with separate left and right filters in 8-voice stereo mode. The voice mode can be switched to 16-voice or 32-voice paraphonic operation. Modulation comes from 4 LFOs, 4 loopable five-stage envelopes and a 16-slot mod matrix. Each of the two layers has two effects, and a polyphonic step sequencer (64 steps, 6 notes per step) and an arpeggiator are built in.

The keyboard is a semi-weighted 76-key Fatar TP/8 with velocity and channel aftertouch. Connections include MIDI In/Out/Thru, USB MIDI, a USB stick jack for sample import, two stereo 1/4" outputs, a headphone output and pedal inputs. Power is supplied by an internal supply through an IEC inlet.
