MKH 8050

Super-cardioid RF condenser microphone from Sennheiser's modular MKH 8000 series, aimed at recording soloists, large instruments such as grand piano, and orchestras where good off-axis rejection matters. It is the super-cardioid counterpart to the cardioid MKH 8040.

  • Super-cardioid RF condenser microphone
  • Frequency response 30–50,000 Hz
  • Equivalent noise level 13 dB(A)
  • Modular head plus XLR module design
  • Balanced, transformerless XLR-3M output
  • 48 V phantom powered; 25 g (55 g with XLR module)

Beskrivelse

The MKH 8050 is a small-diaphragm RF condenser microphone with a super-cardioid pick-up pattern. Compared with its cardioid sibling in the series, it attenuates sound arriving from the sides more strongly, which suits sources where instruments need to be acoustically separated from one another, such as soloists, a grand piano or an orchestra.

The design is modular: a microphone head (MKHC 8050) is paired with an XLR module (MZX 8000). The transducer is symmetrical with two backplates, which the maker credits for very low distortion, and the capsule has a non-reflective Nextel coating. Frequency response is stated as 30 to 50,000 Hz, with an equivalent noise level of 13 dB(A) and a directional pattern that stays consistent within the pick-up area.

It outputs through an XLR-3M connector, balanced, transformerless and floating, and is powered by 48 V phantom power. The microphone is supplied with a clip, windshield, user manual and a transport case.
