RF-X

The RF-X is a freestanding acoustic screen that mounts behind a microphone to limit how much of the room's reflected sound reaches it. It uses the same design approach as the maker's Reflexion Filter PRO and is aimed at home recording setups where the room itself is not treated. Recommended sources are vocals, acoustic guitar and drums, and the maker also lists electric guitars, amps, room mics and strings.

The filter is built from four layers: a vented outer composite panel, a wool fabric layer, an air gap and an inner layer of acoustic foam. This layering is intended to filter evenly across the frequency spectrum, so recordings show very little tonal coloration. New materials make it lighter than earlier models, and the body is vented. Each unit is assembled by hand at the maker's factory.

The redesigned clamp and mounting hardware give control over the distance and height of the microphone relative to the filter. It is designed for conventional upright mic stands. A boom stand is possible only if it is heavy-duty and the filter and microphone are balanced carefully. The box includes a mounting bracket and a mic stand thread adapter.
