Seaboard 2 is a 49-key MIDI controller with no onboard sound engine. Its Keywave2 surface has wider keys with embossed ridges and honed edges, and it tracks five dimensions of touch for each finger. That allows vibrato, glides between notes and swells to be played directly on the keys. The aluminum chassis comes in Platinum Blue or Ebony Black.
The side panel carries an XY pad and three Touch Faders for adjusting how the Keywaves respond. The ROLI Dashboard app offers deeper control over each dimension of touch. Equator2, a synth with six sound sources, over 1,400 presets and 15 effects, is included, along with ROLI Studio and Ableton Live Lite. Airwave can add hand tracking above the surface through ROLI Vision.
The instrument connects over USB-C, which also charges it, through class-compliant MIDI over USB or Bluetooth, and through a 3.5mm TRS MIDI output for hardware synths. A built-in rechargeable battery gives around eight hours of use. It works with major DAWs on macOS and Windows and gives the most expression with MPE-compatible software.
