The VR-730 combines a Virtual Tone Wheel Organ engine, SuperNATURAL and PCM synth sounds, and piano and electric piano tones, some of the latter derived from the RD-2000 stage piano. It has a 73-note semi-weighted waterfall keyboard, nine harmonic bars for the organ, three rotary effect types, and a total of 268 sounds with 128-voice polyphony.
The front panel has dedicated organ, piano and synth sections, an LCD, a set of effect knobs and sliders for the synth. Seven effects run at once: overdrive, tone, compressor, multi-effects, delay, reverb and rotary. Dual and split modes are available, and 100 registrations can be stored. Rhythm patterns, a metronome, a 20-second looper and an SMF/audio file player with USB recording are built in. The case has real wood side panels and a matte control panel.
It weighs 9.9 kg and can run from the AC adaptor or from eight rechargeable Ni-MH AA batteries. Connections include stereo outputs, headphones, an external input, damper and expression pedal jacks, MIDI In/Out, a PK IN connector for the PK-9 pedalboard, and USB ports for a computer and flash memory. The free VR-09 Editor iPad app edits organ and synth sounds, connecting through Roland Wireless Connect or USB. New sounds can be downloaded from Roland's Axial library.
