The TM-2 has two trigger inputs that accept single- and dual-trigger pads and triggers, including Roland V-Pads, V-Cymbals, RT-series acoustic drum triggers, the BT-1 bar trigger pad and the KT-10 kick trigger pedal. It holds 162 internal instruments and 99 kits, with sounds ranging from acoustic drums and percussion to electronic tones, many designed for layering with live acoustic drums through a PA.
An SD/SDHC card slot lets players load their own WAV files, from one-shot samples to loops and full backing tracks, and use them alongside the internal sounds. Kits can be processed with a multi-effects section offering 11 effect types, such as reverb, flanger and delay. Kit selection uses large buttons and a two-line backlit display.
Audio leaves through two 1/4-inch outputs and a stereo mini headphone jack. MIDI in and out connectors allow triggering external modules, recording MIDI into software, or playing the TM-2 from another device. It runs on four AA batteries or the included AC adapter, and a mounting plate fits it to a hi-hat stand or drum rack with a standard multi-clamp.
