The TD-17KVX is a complete electronic drum set built around the TD-17 sound module, which uses Prismatic Sound Modeling. The kit has a PDX-12 snare, three PDX-8 toms, a VH-10 hi-hat with open/close detection that can be mounted on an acoustic hi-hat stand, two CY-12C crash cymbals, a CY-13R ride and a KD-10 kick pad. The kick pad is built with rubber and cushioning to reduce impact noise and works with single and double kick pedals.

The module offers preset kits for different styles and venues, with options to adjust the ambience of each kit, edit the presets and import your own samples. Coach mode provides Time Check, Quiet Count and a warm-up routine with scoring, and performances can be recorded for review. Two extra trigger inputs (AUX and CRASH 2) allow expansion, for example with a second crash cymbal.

Smartphone audio can be streamed to the module over Bluetooth and heard through headphones, so you can play along with songs or video lessons. The module connects to a computer through a driver for Windows and macOS, and free Melodics for V-Drums software is available for macOS and Windows. A drum stand is recommended but sold separately.
