The R-09 is a pocket-sized two-track stereo recorder. It records uncompressed WAV at 16 or 24 bits and 44.1 or 48 kHz, or MP3 at bitrates from 64 to 320 kbps. Files are stored on an SD or SDHC card, and a 64 MB card is supplied.
A stereo condenser microphone is built in, with its own input control, a mono/stereo selector, a low-cut filter and a gain boost. A stereo mini-jack mic input accepts plug-in-powered mics, and a stereo mini-jack line input is also provided. When the line input is in use, the internal and external mics are not active. Playback can be routed through a built-in reverb with several room and hall types, and recordings carry a time stamp.
A 120 x 64 dot OLED graphic display shows the controls. Recordings are monitored through the headphone jack, which doubles as an optical digital output, and files are copied to a computer over a USB 2.0 mini-B connection that works as mass storage. Power comes from two AA batteries (alkaline or nickel-metal hydride) or the supplied AC adaptor.
