The R-05 is a compact two-track recorder that captures stereo audio at up to 24-bit/96 kHz and stores it on SD or SDHC cards. Sound comes from the built-in stereo microphone, a plug-in-power mic input or a stereo line input. A WAV file and an MP3 file can be recorded at the same time, one for production and one for sharing.
Recording helpers include automatic level setting, automatic song splitting, a Rehearsal mode meant to prevent input overload, and a Pre Record function that keeps 2 seconds of audio from before REC is pressed. Trim, divide and combine edits can be done on the unit, and four reverb types are built in. For practice, a section can be looped and playback speed changed between 50 and 150 percent without altering pitch.
The recorder connects to a computer over USB 2.0 as mass storage and runs on two AA batteries or an AC adaptor. Rated battery life with alkaline cells is over 16 hours of recording and over 30 hours of playback. A windscreen is included and a tripod socket is built in.
