The LX-7 generates its piano sound with SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling instead of sampling, so the tone changes with how the keys are played. It has 307 tones in total, including non-piano sounds. Piano tones have unlimited polyphony in solo play, and other tones have 384 voices. The keyboard is the PHA-50, a hybrid of wood and plastic with escapement and an ebony/ivory feel. A progressive damper pedal supports continuous detection.
The Acoustic Projection system uses six speakers: two cabinet speakers, two spatial speakers and two near-field speakers. Rated output is 30 W x 2 plus 7 W x 2. Headphones 3D Ambience adjusts the sound for headphone practice. The front board can be opened to change the tone. Other functions include 25 registrations, a recorder, a metronome, TwinPiano mode, transposition and ten temperaments.
Bluetooth carries audio from phones and tablets through the piano's speakers or headphones. Bluetooth LE handles MIDI and page turning for score apps. Wired connections are a USB computer port, a USB memory port, line outputs, an input jack and two headphone jacks. Bluetooth may not be available in every country. Three finishes are offered: polished ebony, brown walnut and black.
