The JP-08 is a limited-edition module in the Roland Boutique series, built around a recreation of the JUPITER-8 using Analog Circuit Behaviour modelling. It offers 4 voices of polyphony and puts 36 of the original synth's parameters on the metal front panel as knobs and sliders. Two ribbon controllers handle pitch bend, modulation and sound preview, and a 16-step sequencer is on board for sketching ideas.
Beyond the original design, the module adds extra waveforms (TRI and NOISE for the LFO, SIN for VCO-1) and a wider range on both VCOs. Two JP-08 units can be linked over MIDI in chain mode to act as one 8-voice synth, with each further module adding 4 voices. An optional 25-key velocity-sensitive K-25m keyboard unit accepts the module, and its panel can be set to three angles when docked.
The unit has a stereo mini-jack output, input and headphone jack, MIDI in and out, and a micro-B USB port carrying audio and MIDI. USB works as a 24-bit / 44.1 kHz audio interface and also supports backup of patches and patterns. Power comes from 4 AA batteries or USB bus power, and a 0.5 W mini speaker is built in.
