The JD-08 models the sound and behaviour of the 1991 JD-800 using the original 108 waveforms, a four-tone structure and the two-stage multi-effects section. It carries the 64 original presets plus 21 new ones, and offers 256 patch memories. Polyphony is greater than on the original, and the unit is two-part multitimbral.
A two-part, 64-step polyphonic sequencer provides motion recording, a random pattern generator and memory for 128 patterns, alongside an onboard arpeggiator. Palette sliders and a metal front panel give direct access to tone, LFO, wave generator, envelope, filter and amplifier parameters. Editable effects include distortion, phaser, spectrum, enhancer, delay, chorus and reverb.
The module has a USB-C audio/MIDI interface, full-size MIDI in and out, and an external clock input for syncing the sequencer and arpeggiator to other gear. It runs on four AA batteries or USB power and has a built-in mini speaker. The optional DK-01 Boutique Dock and K-25m Keyboard Unit extend it into a self-contained instrument.
