GAIA 2 uses a sound engine with one wavetable oscillator (63 waveforms) and two virtual analog oscillators, followed by a multimode filter with drive. Each of the two LFOs can be assigned to up to four parameters, and the panel uses one control per function, so most edits need no menu diving. A 128 x 64 OLED display shows the output waveform and the path of the Motional Pad movement.
The Motional Pad lets you assign parameters to its X/Y axes, morph between them with a finger and record the movement for playback. The sequencer holds 64 steps and records notes along with panel moves, in real-time, step or TR-REC modes, with a random pattern generator. Effects include 53 multi-effect types, a Chorus section with JUNO chorus modes, and a Reverb/Delay section with a Shimmer Reverb.
The SH-101 Model Expansion is pre-installed. Further Model Expansions, such as JUPITER-8 and JUNO-106, and sound packs are available through Roland Cloud, and the optional WC-1 adapter allows wireless downloads. A USB-C port works as a class-compliant audio/MIDI interface and supports AIRA Link. A USB Type-A port takes a flash drive or a USB MIDI controller. The unit also has stereo outputs, MIDI In/Out and a pedal jack.
