The FANTOM 8 is an 88-note workstation built around the ZEN-Core sound engine. Its PHA-50 keyboard combines wood and plastic with escapement and ebony/ivory feel, and sends channel aftertouch. It carries over 3,500 tones and over 90 drum kits, plus V-Piano Technology in Zone 1 and a VTW organ in Zone 2. The sound set can be widened with EXZ, EXSN and EXM expansions, which are written into internal memory from a USB flash drive.
Performance and production tools include 16 zones, 128 scenes in 4 banks, scene chains, a 16-track MIDI sequencer, a keyboard multisample sampler and a 16-pad sampler. Control comes from a 7-inch colour touchscreen, 8 sliders, 8 control knobs, 6 function knobs, 11 sound-modifying knobs, two wheels and a 4 x 4 pad grid. A stereo analog filter, a vocoder and a large multi-effects section are also built in.
For connections it has balanced XLR and 1/4-inch main outs, sub outs, two mic/line inputs, MIDI In/Out1/Out2-Thru, CV/Gate outputs for modular gear, USB memory and USB computer ports. The USB computer port works as a 24-bit/96 kHz audio and MIDI interface.
