The instrument pairs a 88-note PHA-4 Standard keyboard, with escapement and Ivory Feel, with a ZEN-Core based sound engine. It also carries SuperNATURAL acoustic and electric pianos, a virtual ToneWheel organ and a vocoder with a mic input. It offers 3,500 or more tones and 90 or more drum kits, 16 zones and 128 scenes in each of 4 banks. Each scene stores settings for all layers, effects and patterns.
For creating music it has a clip-based pattern sequencer with 16 MIDI tracks and a TR-REC step mode, a keyboard multisampler, and a 16-pad sampler that can trigger samples. Control comes from a 5.5-inch touchscreen, 8 knobs, 8 sliders, 6 function knobs, 2 sound-modify knobs, 2 wheels, a pitch/mod lever and RGB pads. Sound content can be extended with EXZ, EXSN and EXM expansions, and with packs from Roland Cloud.
On the back are balanced main outs, sub outs, mic and line inputs, pedal jacks, MIDI in and out, and USB ports for computer and flash drive. The USB connection works as a 4x32 audio interface, and the instrument integrates with Logic Pro, MainStage and Ableton Live.
