Aerophone mini is a portable electronic wind instrument built around a PCM sound generator and a breath sensor. Its fingering follows that of a recorder, and the sound engine can be transposed to another key through the companion app, so one fingering pattern covers most songs. Six tones are built in: saxophone, flute, clarinet, violin, trumpet and synthesizer. Reverb is the onboard effect.
The free Aerophone mini Plus app for iOS and Android adds more than 50 extra sounds, 11 practice songs with lessons that show fingerings on screen, adjustable tempo and playback of songs from the phone's library, including a vocal-reduction function. Breath sensitivity can be adjusted, and custom fingerings can be saved in 10 layouts. Up to seven Aerophone GO or Aerophone mini players can join a shared session using the Aerophone GO Ensemble app.
The instrument has a built-in speaker, which is muted when headphones are plugged into the stereo mini output. It runs on four Ni-MH AA batteries or USB power, and Bluetooth carries both audio (A2DP) and MIDI over Bluetooth Low Energy, so it can play software instruments in music apps. Weight with batteries is 500 g.
