The MADIface XT connects to a computer over USB 3.0, USB 2.0 or external PCI Express (which also allows Thunderbolt via adapters). On USB 2.0 the channel count toward the computer is limited to 70. It handles sample rates from 32 kHz to 192 kHz and can run stand-alone, without a computer, using its colour display, two rotary encoders and four menu buttons.
In addition to two optical MADI ports and one coaxial MADI port, it has two digitally controlled mic/line preamps on combo XLR/TRS jacks, two balanced XLR line outputs and a stereo headphone output that also serves as a line output. AES/EBU and MIDI I/O are provided through the supplied breakout cable, and three virtual MIDI I/O pairs run over MADI.
The built-in TotalMix FX mixer is a 4096-channel design with 46-bit internal resolution, supporting free routing, up to 99 independent stereo submixes, ASIO Direct Monitoring and external effects loops. Hardware peak and RMS meters are included. An optional RME Advanced Remote Control can be attached via the Remote socket. Drivers cover Windows (ASIO, WDM) and macOS (Core Audio, Core MIDI).
